The PHOENIX-1010 measures the chemical oxygen demand in wastewater. It uses ozone for oxidation, thereby making use of one of the strongest oxidizing agents available. Dilution water is enriched with ozone in an enrichment tank. This enrichment is measured by the first ozone sensor. The wastewater and the ozone-enriched dilution water oxidize in the reaction tank. The concentration of the residual ozone is measured by the second ozone sensor. The computer controls the ratio of wastewater to dilution water in such a way that ozone consumption in the reaction tank is low and constant while the level of residual ozone is constant and high.
