The basic water treatment systems in the power plant contains:

cooling water
boiler feed water
condensate
wastewater and sludge

Basis for the water supply in power plants is the availability of raw water from wells or surface water and their subsequent treatment as cooling water and/or as supplementary water for the cooling water and water/steam circuit. During fresh water cooling, the water must be freed from pollution which occurs in the form of floating or suspended materials. The mechanical cooling water plant is usually located in the vicinity of the intake systems. It consists mainly of coarse and fine rake as well as sieves bands or sieve drums, the cooling water pumps and the concrete works. A cleaning facility remoces pollution from the rake. Behind the rake are the automatically working sieves and sieve drums with mesh tolerances <1mm. The water velocity in hte intake facility is 0.5 ... 1.5m/s. Cooling pumps convey the water to the main condenser below the turbine. The individual parts of the plant can be sealed during necessary repairs or maintenance works.
